Have you been celebrating National Nursing Home Week (NNHW)? Well, VMP Healthcare & Living Community and many other care facilities across the country have been celebrating it all week! This week is dedicated to recognizing the important role nursing homes play in the care of the seniors in our lives.
According to the American Health Care Association (AHCA), this celebration week began in 1967 and begins on Mother’s Day each year. To make this week even more of a celebration, there is a theme that goes along with it. This year, “skilled nursing care centers will unite under the theme, ‘The Spirit of America‘” to “capture the American spirit.”
At VMP, we have been celebrating National Nursing Home Week with several America-themed events on our campus. Some of our residents’ favorite activities include a performance by Tom Stanfield and a presentation by Steve Schaffer.
Tom Stanfield has always had a passion for music, which is why he turned it into his career at a young age. On Tuesday, May 16, he shared his passion with our residents by performing classic American tunes, such as “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”. VMP’s residents loved getting to sing along to their favorites in honor of NNHW!
Another crowd favorite was a presentation by Steve Schaffer from the Milwaukee County Historical Society on Wednesday, May 17. This wonderful presentation was all about the history of manufacturing in Milwaukee, which our residents enjoyed getting to learn about!
Our week of celebration continues today, May 18, with a grand tour of America with a slideshow presentation by Dave Krubsack. We will also be hosting a presentation of “That Patriotic Music Thing” on Friday, May 19, and showing the movie, “Honor Flight” on Saturday, May 20 to end our celebration of National Nursing Home Week.
