- 4 C. shredded mild cheddar cheese
- 1 tsp. dry mustard
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/8 tsp. ground red pepper
- 1 bottle beer
Combine cheeses, dry mustard, garlic, and red pepper in a large food processor, and process just until blended. Gradually add beer through tube feeder, and process until well blended. Cover and store in refrigerator.
Rose Bowl Chili
- 3 chicken breasts, skinned & boned
- 1 tbsp. oil
- 1 c. chopped onion
- 1 med. green pepper, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cans (14 1/2 oz. each) unsalted tomatoes
- 1 can (15 1/2 oz.) pinto beans, drained
- 2/3 c. picante sauce
- 1 tsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. ground cumin
Chopped green onions
Plain nonfat yogurt or salsa
Cut chicken into 1-inch cubes. Heat oil in large kettle and saute chicken, onion, green pepper and garlic until chicken loses it’s pink color. Add tomatoes, drained beans, picante sauce, chili powder and cumin. Simmer 20 minutes or so. Ladle into bowls and serve. Place condiments in small dishes to be spooned over top of chili. Makes 7 cups.
- 5 fully cooked bratwurst or knockwurst (about 1 lb.)
- 2 oz. Monterey Jack cheese with caraway seed
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced (1/4 C.)
- 5 slices bacon
- 5 French-style rolls or frankfurter buns, halved lengthwise
- Catsup, mustard, chopped onion, and/or pickle relish (optional)
Cut a lengthwise slit in each bratwurst or knockwurst about 1/2 inch deep. Cut cheese into five 2 1/2×1/2×1/4-inch strips. Insert a cheese strip and some of the green onion into each brat or knockwurst. Wrap a slice of bacon around each. Fasten the bacon with wooden toothpicks.
For a charcoal grill, arrange preheated coals around a drip pan in a grill that has a cover. Test for medium heat above the pan. Place brats, cheese side up, on the grill rack directly over the pan. Cover and grill for 5-10 minutes or until bacon is crisp and cheese is melted. For a gas grill, preheat grill. Reduce heat to medium. Adjust for indirect cooking. Place brats on grill rack; cover and grill.
Place brats in French-style rolls or buns. If desired, serve with catsup, mustard, chopped onion, and/or pickle relish.

This “Sister Act” will convince you once and for all that nuns have a major funny bone! The Little Sisters of Hoboken have a problem. Their convent cook has accidentally served a bunch of the sisters a tainted batch of soup, and several of the sisters have met their maker. Prayers are nice, but the surviving sisters need to raise some dough for the burials. A bake sale isn’t going to do it, so the sisters put on a talent show to end all talent shows. Jokes, songs and dancing nuns add up to one of the silliest musical celebrations ever!

The 24th year of making a difference in the life of a child with cancer is now open! Take a trip down Candy Cane Lane in West Allis and share the true spirit of the season.
Look for Parky, the VMP mascot this Friday, December 16th between 7pm and 9pm!
The West Allis neighborhood bounded by Oklahoma and Montana Avenues and 92nd to 96th Street is transformed into a winter wonderland in December to benefit the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc.)
For the 24th year, neighbors will join together to show the spirit of the holiday season during “Sharing Christmas.” The holiday lights will be aglow from Nov. 27 – Dec. 27, 6-9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 5-10 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. People come from all over the Midwest to drive or stroll through this uniquely decorated neighborhood. The event is free, but visitors may leave a donation if they wish. These donations translate into a perpetual gift of hope and life for children with cancer.
The MACC Fund is leading the fight against childhood cancer and related blood disorders. The primary beneficiary of MACC Fund support is the Midwest Children’s Cancer Center, located at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Research is also conducted at the Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
